OLF Resolution for Northeastern North Carolina

                            Presented to the North Carolina State Republican Party Executive Committee

                                                              The 2007 Republican State Convention

                                                                        Charlotte, North Carolina

                                                                                 June 1-3, 2007

Whereas the North Carolina Republican Party has a history of, and continues to support the United States Military, with our lives, our blood, our sweat and our treasure; honoring all members of the military, past, present and future, for the tremendous and unselfish sacrifice in helping to preserve and protect our freedoms, by their service to our State and Nation, at home and abroad;

Whereas we recognize the necessity to have our military the best trained and equipped in the world and hereby commit to continue to support that effort, on a State and Federal level;

Whereas we as citizens of this great state of North Carolina and the Grand Old Party herein must, in addition, recognize the need to provide for our citizens, the opportunity to preserve and protect our land, and to create an economic environment that will stimulate prosperity in all regions of our state;

Whereas Northeastern North Carolina, a Region with tremendous potential for growth, but currently lacking a significant manufacturing base or any immediate promise thereof, and thereby having to rely on those things our God has freely given, and richly blessed us with; our unique history, our fertile farm lands, our shores and waterways, our wildlife, our peace and tranquility; and our Founding Fathers gift to all of us, in the form of establishing for each and every citizen, a series of Constitutional Rights, including the right to own property;

Whereas many Americans nearing retirement are seeking, in their golden years, a place to live, that reflects what we, in this part of the State, have been blessed with, and who want to come here to share this haven that we and those who preceded us, came to know and love; investing of their wealth and knowledge into our communities, thereby providing additional economic and cultural stimulus, a necessary ingredient in helping us to secure and provide for our young people, by the formation of jobs and opportunities not currently available in Northeastern North Carolina, thereby helping us retain traditions that our families and communities have established and cultivated over generations, to continue;

Whereas we grieve as a State and a Region over every acre of farmland we lose, while we recognize and honor our proud farming history, and that these farms are major providers of food and other crops to North Carolina, the United States of America, and the World; recognizing therefore, the need to take all the steps necessary to protect the farmer and the farm, as an industry, from further erosion, while at the same time encouraging the farmer and his family to continue this proud tradition and vital industry in our great State, for generations to come;

Therefore be it resolved, that the North Carolina State Republican Party Executive Committee, on behalf of the citizens of Northeastern North Carolina, deems the location of the Navy’s proposed Outlying Landing Field [OLF] here as unnecessary, as a multitude of other options for the Navy exist; options that will not threaten the economic vitality of, nor strip the economic potential for, this proud Region of our great State of North Carolina;

So be it further resolved, and let it be known throughout the Tar Heel State, that on this day, 3 June 2007, we the Republican Executive Committee, brothers and sisters united at this great convention, stand together with Northeastern North Carolina, in their opposition to the location of an Outlying Landing Field in their Region, while at the same time, pledging our continued support to the United States Navy, in their search for an alternative location.
